ESPRESSO MACHINES
If you ask anyone around Charlotte, Community Matters Café is the spot for breakfast, lunch, or a great cup of coffee. With a James Beard–nominated chef and an uplifting atmosphere on the edge of uptown, it’s become a city favorite.
Here’s what most people don’t know
This popular Charlotte café wasn’t designed to make a profit—
it was designed to change lives.
More than a Café — It's a Life Skills Program
Community Matters Café is part of Charlotte Rescue Mission’s Recovery Living Program. After completing the 120-day residential recovery program, men and women can choose to continue in a two-year, after-care journey. One of those tracts is life-skills—and the café is the Mission’s flagship training ground.
When you’re greeted by a host, served by your barista, or enjoy a meal from the kitchen, many of those team members are graduates learning the real-world skills that help them re-enter society with confidence and stability.
It’s a place filled with hope, healing, and transformation—served daily.

Where Does the Café’s Revenue Go?
Because the café wasn’t created to profit, every dollar earned is poured right back into the people in recovery. Your support helps provide:
- A safe, sober place to live
- Dedicated case management
- Emotional and practical support
- The environment people need to rebuild their lives
WHY We Need Your Help Today
Like any business, the café has maintenance and equipment needs—but unlike other businesses, it doesn’t keep profit reserves to cover them. That’s where our community can step in.
Café Christmas Wish List Goal: $50,000
- New espresso machines with service contracts
- Upholstery repairs for interior booths
- Replacing worn outdoor patio tables
By giving, you aren’t just funding equipment—you’re investing in the men and women working every day to overcome addiction and reclaim their futures.
Charlotte Rescue Mission is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your gift is tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Success Talk...
“I love the culture and mission still! And I like the amount of freedom that I’m given to grow and learn within my leadership. I LOVE the people (both students and staff) that I get to work with, as they have become an extension of my family.”
– CHEF CHAYIL
